Thomas Gray, second son of Sir Andrew,
was a warrior like his father. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Durham,
October 17, 1346. and not released till 1356.
"The trumpets sound, the banners fly, The glittering spears are ranked ready;
The shouts of war are heard afar, The battle closes thick and bloody."
The description of Thomas de Gray strongly suggests that he, like his father was a Templar Knight. the "de Gray" indicates the still French origin of a warrior in Scotland!
