Eldest son of James and Ada. Born and brought up Westgate, he started work for Homes, a small engineering company which was taken over by Reyrolle, a larger engineering firm, building mainly switchgear for power generation.                         

                                                               

He married in Newcastle in 1917 Florence Margaret Marshall, (b 29 11 1888 Westgate)  eldest  daughter  of  John  Marshall a coachbuilder.                                        

                                                               

After the birth of his only son, Alan, he moved within the firm to Leeds in 1935 living  first  at  54 Fitzroy drive,  then  34 Chandos Avenue. He worked for Reyrolle for many years.         

                                                               

He occasionally returned to Lairg to visit the family there. His interest in Genealogy  led  him  to  draw  the  family  tree beginning with Angus and Fanny, his grandparents.              

                                                               

After his retirement and the death of Florrie in 1967 he returned to Westgate, Newcastle where he died in 1968.         

                                                                

A quiet and kindly man, his hobby was his small workshop.
