This volume is a scrapbook, a collection of articles, trees, letters, and some original research from a variety of sources and people.
It tells the story of the descent of the family of Gray from the mists of legend and time down to the present day.
My descent from the beginning of the volume is generally marked with pages and articles outlined in red.
Some copied material has no backup other than the sources quoted usually libraries and depositories in Scotland. The remainder may be found on
computer files, variously under Genealogy or Gray directories.
The program Family Tree Maker, holds the tree records, many have been exported (gedcom format) into the Generations program for the printing of
large trees. File directories are Ftw, and Gen4. Other people researching my immediate family during my lifetime have been; -
Current efforts are towards finding descendants of Alexander Gray of Ibrox, Glasgow in an attempt to trace a considerable amount of original research he was in possession of. Much of his source material may have been destroyed in a fire at Dunrobin Castle and records lost. Proving the father of Angus Gray 1739 has occupied most of my time as well as unearthing a lot of the information and stories in this volume. The story of the family to date has been an extraordinary one, full of coincidence and survival. However this must necessarily be so for us to be here today. Colabol, Skibo, Dunrobin, Dornoch Cathedral, the whole County has been home to the family for 700 years. |
